PostgreSQL 19 Arrives: Graph Queries, Online REPACK, Parallel Vacuum
PostgreSQL 19 feels different from a quiet upgrade. It gives developers new ways to ask hard questions, and it gives operators relief from work that used to need extra tools, long locks, or careful weekends. In this session we will walk through what is new in PostgreSQL 19 in plain language. We will look at property graph queries that run over tables you already have, better support for time-based data changes, cleaner ways to handle inserts when a row already exists, and simpler partition management. We will also cover the day-two side: rebuilding tables with less disruption, vacuum work that can run in parallel, clearer monitoring, better plan guidance, and improvements in logical replication. The goal is not a long feature list. You will leave with a clear picture of what matters, what is still limited, and what to try first after you upgrade.
